Bob grew up in New York, northern Vermont, and Tennessee,before heading west. He spent three years practicing at a large law firm in Phoenix, Arizona before joining the firm which is now known as Goetz, Baldwin & Geddes P.C. in 1990.

His practice consists overwhelmingly of litigation and trial practice, representing both plaintiffs (often on a contingency fee basis) and defendants in complex commercial, business tort, corporate/shareholder disputes and insurance cases. He also represents plaintiffs in personal injury cases. In the past few years, Bob has obtained several verdicts and settlements in excess of $1 million against various defendants, including the Spanish Peaks Resort in Big Sky, Montana and the founder of the Yellowstone Club. Bob also obtained a $3.8 million jury verdict in a defamation case against a Kalispell radio station. Other typical cases include disputes over real property contracts, real estate development rights, and insurance coverage/bad faith cases.

Bob is a member of the American Association for Justice, the American Bar Association, and the Montana Trial Lawyers Association. He is admitted to practice in the state and federal courts in Montana and Arizona (inactive), as well as the United States Courts of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the D.C. Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.


Waddell v. Allstate, United States District Court, District of Montana, 7 day jury trial in May of 2002. Breach of insurance contract/coverage case. Result: Jury finding of coverage in favor of our clients.

Erdall v. Singleton, Montana Fifth Judicial District Court, 1 week jury trial in February of 2004. Assault. Result: $75,000 verdict in favor of our client and award of punitive damages.

Ashley v. Horn, United States District Court, District of Montana, Breach of contract involving real estate. Result: verdict of approximately $300,000 in favor of our client.

West v. The Club at Spanish Peaks, LLC, Montana Eighteenth Judicial District Court, 2 week jury trial in October of 2006. Breach of contract, statutory claims, breach of fiduciary duty, etc. Result: $734,000 jury verdict for our client, and additional damages and attorney fees bringing total judgment affirmed on appeal to approximately $1.25 million.

Gardner v. Stokes, Montana Eleventh Judicial District Court, 3 day jury trial in September of 2008. Result: $3.8 million verdict for our clients.

Harbaugh v. Spanish Peaks, Montana Eighteenth Judicial District Court, approx. 1 week jury trial, Judge Holly Brown, presiding. Suit for misrepresentation in connection with sale of real estate. I represented the plaintiffs.  Result: plaintiffs verdict in excess of $1.1 million. After, interest, fees and treble damages, judgment in excess of $6 million. Related coverage declaratory action resulted in judgment that insurance policies covered the loss. Both cases settled on appeal for a confidential amount.
LeMond v. Yellowstone Development, LLC, Montana Fifth Judicial District Court, bench trial, Judge Blair Jones, presiding. Suit to quiet title to real property worth in excess of $10 million.
